Birthday memories...

On the eve of my 53rd birthday, I sit here reflecting on the years gone by; birthdays that have come and gone. Don't misunderstand; I LOVE birthdays. There has never been one that I've dreaded or been "depressed" over. I feel blessed to have them!!

There are 2 that particularly stand out in my mind. The first, my 16th. Most girls remember their "Sweet 16". No need to go into detail there. Second, the last one I spent with my mom, 21 years ago. I have a picture of that day. She and daddy came over to our quaint little home for dinner and she brought me what would be her last material gift for me. I was in need of a sewing basket, as the one I was using was one from HER teen aged years. I still have that sewing basket and use it regularly. Each time I reach in for a needle or thread, I think of my mama and birthdays......and then I smile.

Her gifts now come in the form of special memories...

----remembering....

On the 10th anniversary of what I personally know as the most tragic injustice that America has endured, I sit and watch personal recounts of what happened on that infamous day, 9-11-01...
People were dumbfounded, at a loss for words. They were frightened. They felt helpless as they watched victims leaning out of the Twin Towers, and then leaping to their deaths. Then they got angry...
I cannot imagine what eyewitnesses to the events or the families and friends of all of the victims must have felt on that day and since. My own remembrance is so insignificant compared to what they have gone through.
America is strong; we must stay united through all time. Sometimes I feel we have been too generous for our own good. Yes, there is still anger. Yes, there has been forgiveness; because without forgiveness there can be no healing...and our nation continues to heal, even all these years later.
To ALL of those affected by the events of 9-11, the Twin Towers, the Pentagon, Flight 93...we will never forget......

Twists and turns

Life isn't what I expected it to be today.....on several different levels; let me explain...

I have just spent an incredible weekend with my hubby. Some of you may be thinking "OK, so they went away for the holiday weekend."  We have had fun, talked, laughed, contemplated, etc. The twist is, since hubby took a job in Florida whilst I remain in Arkansas, it wasn't the usual get-a-way that couples take. I hopped on the big bird (which some of you know I despise) and headed to Florida for a weekend visit.  We took in the beach one day (which we haven't done together in years) and thoroughly enjoyed it, among other things...

The most recent 'turn' in life is the developing friendship I have with the most unexpected acquaintance from my past. That is when life did a "u-ee" and then jumped up and surprised me.

I enjoy the twists and turns; I actually like surprises....the good ones that is. May your lives be filled with many happy twists and turns......add a few shouts in there, too!!
